After many gems and rarities, we eat humble pie and we focus on a classical dram from the entry level range: Glenmorangie 10 years old. Outside it’s cold and rainy, so we don’t feel like writing too many introductions. The colour is a light golden.
N: cosy and nicely fruity (peach juice, yellow fruit, maybe some banana), with a marzipan sweetness focused on almond paste which never bothers you. Everything is balanced by persistent mineral and oily notes, with shadows of wood and nuts. Suggestion: a “clean” washback, with malt and yeast. Icing sugar.
P: it opens up gently. It’s even too much delicate, it seems almost anonymous. Suddenly, the fruity side appears, not complex but rich and consistent with the nose: a yummy and sugary peach, maybe peach candy. Again whiffs of marzipan. It’s simple, with a light body and a pure, super clean malt. Anyway, there’s no lack of intensity.
F: good kick of marzipan again, quite long and intense. And your mouth feels wonderfully clean.
Today we’re men of few words: it’s good, simple but good: so we reward the distinctiveness of this ‘morangie easy but interesting. It’s an everyday dram, but it really satisfied us: 84/100.
