Heaven Hill 10 yo (2009/2020, Valinch & Mallet, 48,8%)

We end our reviews of the latest Valinch & Mallet bottlings facing a single cask of Heaven Hill, a Kentucky Bourbon. It is a brother barrel (or a sister cask, you choose the gender conflict you want) of another Heaven Hill, which we had drunk last year, and which we found very unusual and delicate. Let’s see if the genes are the same.

Progetto senza titolo (4)

N: not muscolar and just a little bourbonish, this is really aromatic and delicate. Immediately we nose white flowers and violet, then a gentle sweetness of yellow plums, dried coconut, alkekengi and a bit of icing sugar. Well, vanilla, of course. Pleasant, even if feel something artificial – it leaves a bit of a sense of ephebic bourbon, if we understand each other. In his sister cask we detected a Kirsch, and there is a sense of fruit distillate here too.

P: the palate seems to be less complex than the nose, totally dominated by a very, very intense violet flower. We think of Parma violets and violet licorice, if you know that stuff… It is quite woody, with fresh wood and spices; and then we are struck by a hint of Modica chocolate, that is sugary and sour.

Recommended soundtrack: Kim Wilde – Kids in America.
