As you certainly already know from the press release, your beloved Internet scribblers will sacrifice theirselves on Sunday morning, tasting several samples of GlenDronach’ casks from 1993. The aim is to select The Cask which will be bottled and distributed in Italy by Silver Seal and Beija Flor. Waiting for that, we’ll settle to taste the flagship product of GlenDronach’s core range: the 21 yo “Parliament”. The colour is a nice ruby.
N: no alcohol at all. As we experienced in the Cask Strength, the PX influence is evident, with its blatantly sugary intake. Brown sugar, ladyfingers, almond pastries. Followed by a bold layer of elegant sherried aromas: flares of red fruits (cherries), chocolate, dried figues. Outside the sweet box, hints of balsamic vinegar and furniture polish stand out.
P: super smooth and mouth-filling: consistent with the nose, even if the bitter influence of casks are increasing now. Comparing to the sweet notes in the nose, there are light and charming hints of rhubarb and coffee grounds, to offset the intense sweetness of cherries and gorgeous dried figues.
F: dry and long: red fruits and “cherried” aromas endure without losing intensity.
This 21 yo is jaunty and people-pleasey to the nose, more severe and elegant on the palate. It’s definetely an amazing sherried malt, which is proud of its maturation and it succeeds in enchanting even the most demanding drinkers. 88/100 is our decision.
